Football Stories: Karen
Karen – Airport welcome services volunteer
My earliest football memory is sitting on my grandad's knee watching a Scotland game on TV, I think I was about four. Two or three years later I can remember sitting at the kitchen table with him explaining the offside rule to me using salt and pepper, cutlery etc. He was a retired grade 1 referee who had been part of a Scottish team who went to Hungary to officiate at a World Cup qualifier. That is where my love of football comes from. When Grandad died, I was given his whistle, an Acme Thunderer. I started going to Gayfield after we moved back to Arbroath when I was 11 and am really missing watching my team, we've had such a fantastic few years.
